Mitsubishi to Discontinue the Lancer Evolution?

I came across a post on one of my native car forums a few weeks ago, and had been surprised to learn that Japanese automaker Mitsubishi would be discontinuing the "Evolution" model of their famous Lancer. It was stated on the news site that the reason for Mitsubishi's cancellation of the Evolution was due to their recent idea to follow more of a "green" perspective for their future vehicles.

As a fellow car enthusiast, I am quite disappointed by this news - who will this leave for Subaru's STi to compete with in terms of the better vehicle? I for one am not very impressed by Mitsubishi's recent change of appearance - even though I was never a huge fan of the Evolution, I always liked to hear about the competition between the two rally competitors, and hearing constant arguing between my opinionated automobile enthusiasts of friends was always something to have a good laugh about.

What I am interested in is opinion. I want to know your thoughts about Mitsubishi's decision, and what might become of the Subaru WRX STi now that it will be running solo in the competition to produce the best rally vehicle. Let me know what you think!

  1. I'm all for a greener environment but this sucks D: such a beautiful machine. +following you up in case you get any more news on this.

  2. Not really a car enthusiast, but it is a shame to see such a nice car go.

  3. Sad to see these discontinuing but I guess all good things come to an end.

I imagine they'll have to replace it with something for their rally teams as otherwise they stand to lose a valuable crop of supporters to either Ford or Subaru.

  4. Yeah I feel like its been around for so long it could never go away, I guess i was wrong

  5. Actually, Subaru has withdrawn from Rally Circuits from what I have heard - they have just chosen to continue producing the WRX STi.

It really is a shame to see something like that go, after 10 generations it truly is a sad sight even for a Honda fan.
